Zagreb Museums: Tesla, Illusions or Chocolate – Which One Is for Whom?
Updated October 20, 2026 · 5 min read
If you have time for one museum, make it the Nikola Tesla Technical Museum for a real collection, or the Museum of Broken Relationships for something only Zagreb has. Illusions, Chocolate and Hangovers are shorter, lighter and aimed at a different mood. Which one is right depends on who is with you and what the weather is doing.
The five at a glance
| Museum | Ticket | Rating · reviews | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Museum of Broken Relationships | €9 | 4.5 · 913 | Everyday objects with the stories behind them |
| Nikola Tesla Technical Museum | €7 | 4.5 · 628 | Science and technology collection |
| Museum of Illusions | €14 | 4.1 · 318 | Over 70 exhibits, holograms, a mirror maze |
| Chocolate Museum | €12 | 4.3 · 100 | History of chocolate, nine tastings |
| Museum of Hangovers | €15.50 | 4.2 · 41 | Eight rooms, a driving simulator, a dark room |
Nikola Tesla Technical Museum: the one with a collection
This is the traditional pick. The museum’s own website lists the permanent exhibition at €4 for adults, and a visit to the mine is included in the ticket. The mine tour runs at 15:00 Tuesday to Friday and at 11:00 on Saturday and Sunday, so plan your arrival around it.
Opening hours are narrow: Tuesday to Friday 9:00 to 17:00, Saturday and Sunday 9:00 to 13:00, closed on Mondays and public holidays. That is the main trap. A weekend afternoon visit does not work.
Note the price. The listing is €7, while the museum’s own adult price is €4. The listing may bundle something, but its description does not say what, so compare it with the door price before you pay the difference. The planetarium is a separate €4, and the museum does not recommend it for children under seven.

Museum of Illusions: the quick, playful one
The listing promises more than 70 exhibits, one of Europe’s largest hologram exhibitions, a mirror maze and size-changing effects. It is built for photos and for groups who want to laugh rather than learn. Its rating, 4.1 from 318 reviews, is the lowest of the five, so expect fun rather than depth.
Chocolate Museum: a tasting with a story
At €12, the Chocolate Museum teaches the history of chocolate and lets you taste nine types, with a selfie spot in a rainforest or a royal court. With 100 reviews, its rating of 4.3 is a weaker signal than the Tesla museum’s 628.
Museum of Hangovers: only if the joke appeals
The listing describes it as the world’s only Museum of Hangovers: eight rooms of true stories, a driving simulator, balance challenges and a dark room you explore with a UV flashlight. At €15.50 it is the dearest, and 41 reviews is thin evidence. It is for adults who want a laugh, not a museum visit in the usual sense.
Which one for whom
- A couple, one evening: Broken Relationships. The museum is open late, until 21:00 or 22:00 depending on the season.
- Someone curious about how things work: Tesla, on a weekday morning.
- Friends on a rainy afternoon: Illusions, or the chocolate tasting.
- A group that wants a joke: Hangovers.
All the museum tickets are on the Zagreb museum tickets page, from €7. Combine one with the Upper and Lower Town walk and you have a full day without leaving the centre.
